Earlier this year I went to Sayulita on the west coast of Mexico, with a cherished client of mine – Athleta.
The journey with this gang is always special, rewarding and inspiring, but this little fishing town provided me with so much more. As I was able to connect into the community in a small yet impacting way. Throughout our time there, it was Sayulita festival week, so me being me, Immersed myself in all that time could offer me. From onlooking at surf competitions, yoga workshops, tequila music concerts and jungle mountain runs! All in the name for one goal…… to raise money for the development of their local school.
Bonded by the common goal I literally saw mate ship at its finest. The woman of the town took me in under their wings.
Dining at the perfectly quaint and alter delicious La esperanza Sayulita, while almost daily training with the iron fit lady of the town Shanti from Sweat Play Live ( www.sweatplaylive.c0m )
Conquering the jungle run which was the most vertically challenging race I have ever competed was my most self rewarding pursue of festival. Coming home as the first woman, I ran along side a local boy that amongst his mutual exhaustion guided me home.
A few years ago I visited Sayulita with my mum and younger sister, which was memorable and gorgeous, but this time the connection I made with this tiny village was inspiring.
Take aways from the trip
- create and cook like @La_ esperanza_sayulita
- Bend and gain grounding like @korimayoga
- inspire self and others like @sweatplaylive
- and be apart of something bigger like the community of Sayulita
See the imagery that the clever cats at Athleta put together on hitting the waves as a woman in Sayulita
Next time I visit I will refine my surfing skills, they are there but they are definitely rusty
