If you’re a cafe connoisseur like me, primarily you would know that chai means tea in Hinidi. But in the West it refers specifically to spiced Indian-style tea – that is, tea with traditional Indian spices and milk.

It is a drink made from some of the world’s most medicinally active herbs. There are thousands of chai recipes – many of which come from India – but the basic components of chai include black tea, cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom and black pepper.

While each of these ingredients has its own powerful health benefits, their synergy creates a potent tea that may help support digestion, prevent cancer, lower blood sugar and promote cardiovascular health.

Here is a recipe to add a touch of spice into your blender:

Coconut Chai Shake

1 teaspoon ginger

1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
pinch of all spice
2 tablespoon of almond butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 scoop of pumpkin seed protein powder

Blend to creamy
